CAMBRIDGE PLACE TOWNHOUSE

This Clinton Hill, Brooklyn duplex underwent a dramatic transformation, reimagining a classic, dimly lit townhouse as a luminous and modern home for a parent who loves to cook, host, and gather.

We opened up the formerly compartmentalized kitchen and dining areas, introducing a continuous custom millwork design that flows from the living room through the kitchen and into the dining space. This move enhances connectivity and allows natural light to pour into the heart of the home from the bay window beyond. The new kitchen island anchors the space, while the extended millwork run supports both everyday family life and entertaining. Original black and white cement tiles, a favorite of the client, were carefully preserved and now frame the dining extension—accented with expressive marble surfaces and open shelving for treasured objects.

Preserved tile and vintage appliances are reframed by warm oak cabinetry, honed stone, and a reoriented layout that creates fluidity between rooms.

Rather than remove an awkward fireplace bump-out in the living room, we wrapped it in custom oak millwork—absorbing it into a clean, horizontal gesture that visually anchors the space. Exposed ceiling joists were left intact, adding warmth and rhythm to the ceiling plane. A built-in projector and concealed speakers were seamlessly integrated into the joist cavity, transforming the living area into a multi-use space for gathering and family life.

Upstairs, the primary bedroom was reimagined around a need for calm and clarity. A long, continuous wall of hidden storage now conceals a generous wardrobe, allowing the client to access and display her collection while keeping the room visually serene. The bed was relocated and integrated with the architecture to maximize space and light.

Seamless oak-panel walls hide ample storage, creating a quiet and restorative space.
